Zombies! More Zombies! ZOMFG – Get Ready, For Outbreak Missions!

 

With all the hype in flesh-devouring masses known as Zombies and TV shows like “The Walking Dead” —and movies like World War Z, etc., Zombies in pop culture have become a self-sustaining meme already. Why? Because we like something that scares us or something the grosses us out. Sensationalism is the catalyst that powers influences such as this.

Since 2008, fun runs and marathons have increased greatly in popularity. Despite this growing figure, running has yet to meet its full potential.

Inspired by Run for Your Lives, Outbreak Manila adds a whole new twist to the typical 5km run. Its goal is to come up with a race that stands out from all the rest by giving people a cause that they would really run for. And what better cause can there be than to run as if your life depended on it?

This time you aren't just running against time or obstacles. But you'll also be running from FLESH EATING ZOMBIES.

Experience

I’ve been joining the run for 2 consecutive years already. Since then, it has become a routine for me and my friends to wear even simple costumes which are highly encouraged at the event.

Before the start of the race, we were given a belt with 3 flags attached to it. These flags represent our health for the race. 

During the race, zombies are scattered across the course to eat our brains… err get those flags. One zombie can only get one flag from you.

Upon crossing the finish line, you must at least have one health flag intact in order to be eligible for prizes. Glad two of my friends (Glennise and Jhett) survived with one health flag attached to them.

As for Evan, my brother (Nathan) and me, we have lost all our flags but we were still able to finish the race. Well, we too got our prizes or what you so called (pampalubag loob) a T-shirt, loot bags and masculine wash. Ha, ha, ha!

Overall, despite a lot of people getting bruises because of the track, most of the participants including us were really satisfied with the zombies’ and the overall fun run event.

After the tiring race that ended up around 1am already, we decided to eat and asked my brother to drive to the nearest 24-hour food chain. AKA Jollibee! Ha, ha, ha!

I asked my friends about the future of Outbreak, they smiled and excitedly said, “Tara, next time ulit!". We really are excited for the next Outbreak . And there it is! It's happening again!

Outbreak Missions

For the next Outbreak, registration for the event will open on September 14, 2013, Friday. Unlike the previous events which were held in BGC, Enchanted Kingdom and Nuvali, this time, it will be held down south in Festival Mall, Filinvest, Alabang.

Stemmed from the 5km Zombie Infested Course of Outbreak Manila, comes an adrenaline fuelled zombie adventure where your survival is dependent on the choices and sacrifices you make. 

Survival Missions is not merely a run, it’s an adventure. 

With nine other survivors, you will live out one of two survival scenarios that you’ve chosen. Starting from one of the few remaining human outposts, you will be tasked to explore several areas with each location leading towards the overall objective. Look for other survivors, uncover clues, and collect scattered supplies--all while maneuvering your way through lurking flesh eating zombies. 

Outbreak Missions is a physically-demanding, role-playing adventure.


Adarna Initiative: (October 4 and 18, 2013)

Mission Log:

    A medical convoy transporting a rumored cure to the outbreak was ambushed by zombies while on its way to a nearby lab facility. Curiously named “Adarna Initiative”, there is no available information about the cure other than its version 2.0 is only 96% completed.

    This mission is a thrilling adventure from start to finish. Navigate through hordes of zombies, avoid malicious surivors with self-serving plans, and perform challenges to find out if the Adarna initiative is truly effective. Proceed with extreme caution; you’re out there alone with only a few geeky scientists to guide you.

The Narrows (October 19, 2013)

 Mission Log:

    Running out of resources, the outpost has fallen on tough times, and most of the members of their community are gone, leaving for the promise of an escape-- a bus with a straight shot out of the infected zone.

    The mission is to fight for survival and set a path to the bus, the only way out of the area. Navigate your way through the mall and its narrows while being on the lookout for lives that are scattered around. Be careful, the most dangerous thing out there might not even be the zombies.
